SECURE FUTURE: A good locksmith is always in demand

Tuesday October 28,2008

SECURITY is a major concern for everyone these days, whether it is in the home or the workplace.

People are keen to improve the security of their homes, garages and offices, and are upgrading their locks to create a more secure system.

Every day, thousands of people  lose their keys, lock themselves out or force a lock to get in. As a result, good locksmiths are in constant demand.

The UK Locksmiths Association runs short courses for people who are keen to set up as mobile locksmiths, or find work with a locksmith company, regardless of their previous experience or career background.

Director and trainer Adam Jackson said: “Our students range from carpenters and joiners who want to add locksmithing to their skills, to solicitors and accountants looking for a change of career.

“We also have a lot of women on our courses. This is not a heavy or complicated job. All you need is an understanding of how things work.”

The two and three-day courses are held at the association’s training centre in Woodford Green, Essex, where students are shown how to fit, pick, strip and reassemble locks, and to cut keys.

They are also taught how to set up their own mobile locksmith business.

Mr Jackson added: “We provide working manuals and access to a helpline, so that once your training is finished, you can be up and running with the added reassurance that you still have our back-up and support.”
