KEEGAN FURY OVER £10M MCGEADY

Aiden McGeady

Friday September 5,2008

Kevin Keegan had lined up a £10 million beat-the-deadline bid to sign Celtic's Aiden McGeady before Newcastle United went into meltdown.

But the Newcastle hierarchy  refused to rubber stamp the record breaking deal and the offer didn't arrive at Celtic Park.

This behind the scenes dispute at St James' Park meant Celtic were spared having to make a decision over whether or not to take the cash and sell the young wing wizard.

Since then  Keegan  has gone underground as his row  raged on  with the Newcastle  board-room power-brokers over transfer deals which led to the manager storming out of the stadium on Tuesday.

No-one on Tyneside really knows the current situation with Keegan, who has been posted missing ever since.

Republic of Ireland raider McGeady was one of the names on King Kev's wanted list and he was prepared to test Celtic's resolve with a £10 million offer.

ExpressSport  has been told the bid was in place on Monday and ready to be forwarded to Celtic Park.

KK has openly admired McGeady since returning to the Magpies in January and his scouts have regularly watched the wee Celt in action.

A senior Newcastle source stated Keegan had finally made up his mind to make a positive move for McGeady before the sack/no sack storm blew up.

Now, if Keegan does stay as manager, he will have to wait until the January window before renewing his interest in McGeady.

Keegan is due to make his first public appearance today since angrily walking out on Newcastle.

He has pledged to be with Joey Barton at his FA disciplinary hearing, which could result in a three-month ban for the convicted thug.

Keegan has been in hiding, but if he honours his commitment to Barton, he'll be back in the spotlight.

Barton must answer FA charges relating to his crazed training ground assault on former Manchester City team-mate Ousmane Dabo.

The Scouser pleaded guilty to attacking Dabo at Manchester Crown Court and escaped with a suspended prison sentence while serving a six month sentence for assault and affray in Liverpool city centre.
